

The members of the Somaliland House of Representatives have officially elected Yasin Hajji Mohamud Hiir Faratoon as the new Speaker, following his victory over his close rival, Mohamed Khadar, with 46 votes.
In a statement of gratitude, the newly elected Speaker, representing the ruling party, Kulmiye, expressed appreciation to all the members from both opposition parties and the ruling party for entrusting him with the leadership of the house, as he takes over the position previously held by his predecessor, Abdirizak Khalif, who resigned.
Upon the announcement of the results by the deputy speaker, Mohamed Khadar gracefully congratulated his rival with a smile on his face for securing the parliamentary speakership.
Some of the members of the house believe, The 76 years old, Yasin Faratoon brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles within various government entities in the former Somaliland administrations, including serving as the Governor of Las Anod, Minister of Education, Minister of Interior, and most recently, as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
