The Somaliland ruling party; Kulmiye; has concluded its three-day convention where it unanimously endorsed the new central committee members. Yesterday, its members also elected the top five seats of the party.
The main agenda of today was to elect the new central committee members for the next five years; though their names have not been revealed yet.
This means the ruling party is now ready for the next elections in the country as they have endorsed the top five seats of the party and the central committee members. The only thing which remains unclear is when the President will appoint the party’s secretary general.
At the convention, President Muse Bihi emphasized the need for the international community to give more attention to Somaliland’s sovereignty and why they should not turn blind eye to this matter.
‘The Fourth Convention of Kulmiye party should prove to the international community that after 30 years of peace, development, free election, and good governance, it is unfair that the country should still not be accorded recognition. We call on the international community to recognise Somaliland’s right to get international recognition.’
Abdirahman Saylici, the country’s vice president who recently decided to quit from the ruling party’s leadership in 2020 said political parties should be able to eliminate tribalism from the country.
‘The most important thing is that we value ourselves as a party. If we are the Kulmiye members, we must take the lead and get rid of tribalism from the country.’
Kulmiye was founded in 2002 and it has been the ruling party for the last decade since it came to power in 2010.
