Ahmed Diirie (Nacnac), a Somaliland lawmaker, has strongly opposed the recent Maroodi-jeeh regional court verdict on seven men who raped a mentally depraved girl at an orphanage center in Hargeisa. He insisted that the victim was within her right to get justice.
He said that he is in support of demonstrations against the court’s judgment in the country and accentuated that the young girl and her family deserve to get justice from the judiciary. He highlighted that issue like this account for one of the major reasons for the Somaliland’s uprising against the old Somalia dictator, Siad Barre.
‘This girl needs to get justice. Yes, Awo wants justice. I oppose injustice and she must get the appropriate verdict.’
Previously, the main opposition party of Somaliland strongly opposed Marodijeh regional court in sentencing two of the seven men to 3 years while five others were sentenced to 6 months without leaving the country although the prosecutor’s office was not satisfied with the verdict and appealed.
13-year-old Awo Harir Rageh allegedly raped this year at the Hargeisa Orphanage Centre.
