Somaliland Marks 33rd Anniversary of Withdrawal from its union with Somalia

Somaliland commemorated the 33rd anniversary of its decision to withdraw from its union with Somalia, initially formed in 1960. Celebrations underscored its status as a sovereign nation with a functioning government.

Thousands of citizens filled the main streets of major cities, many adorned in clothing reflecting the colors of the Somaliland flag, to celebrate this national day. The event featured parades by various national forces, including armored vehicles along the presidential road.

Government officials addressing the event commemorated the anniversary, reaffirming Somaliland’s dedication to maintaining its sovereignty and firmly rejecting any potential reunification with Somalia.

Since its withdrawal, Somaliland has consistently conducted free, fair, and transparent elections and established relations with Western countries and regional neighbors including Ethiopia which is expected to offer formal recognition to Somaliland as stated by the Somaliland officials.
