Somaliland MP Reprimanded for Engaging in Violent Dispute with Vulcaniser

A Somaliland MP was yesterday rebuked by his colleague for allegedly being involved in a violent fight with a street vulcaniser.

According to some local TV channels which reported the incident, Ahmed Kijande, a member of Somaliland’s House of Representatives was allegedly accused of being involved in a planned attack on a vulcanizer after disagreements between him and the 22-year old victim yesterday in Hargeisa.

Abdirham Mohamed Hoog who happens to also be a member of Somaliland’s House of Representatives has condemned the move as absolutely reprehensible.

Initial reports indicate that the dispute between both parties came following a disagreement on payment for service.

MP Abdirahman Mohmed Hoog described the move as ‘a calculated attack’. He said such incidents were too brazen for a Somaliland MP to be involved in them.

Hoog explained that he was informed that the accused MP hired a group of people to attack the vulcaniser who was working just opposite his supermarket leading to the young fellow’s hospitalisation at Royal Hospital in Hargeisa.

Abdirahman Hoog called on the country’s security agencies, parliament, and the judiciary to react on the case.

‘The MP was involved in gross misconduct and if the guy dies from this attack, it will be murder. And now, what the MP did is attempted murder. The victim is a Somalilander. You can’t treat a foreigner in such a disgraceful way in this country.’

Ahmed Abdi Kijandhe has not made any comment on the allegation levelled against him at the time of filing this report.
