President Muse Bihi of Somaliland has welcomed Catriona Laing, the UN Special Representative to Somalia, in a statement from the office of the President said, The purpose of this significant meeting was to foster and consolidate the bilateral relations between the United Nations and Somaliland.
During the meeting, the two leaders engaged in discussions pertaining to several critical matters. Among the central topics of deliberation was the anticipated talks between Somaliland and Somalia, finding a sustainable resolution to the ongoing conflict in LasAnod. Both parties expressed their commitment to seeking peaceful and constructive avenues for addressing the pressing challenges in the region.
The meeting, which marked Catriona Laing’s inaugural visit to Somaliland following her appointment in May 2023, concluded with outcomes that were deemed positive by both President Bihi and the UN Special Representative. According to the statement.
Prior to her current role as the UN Special Representative to Somalia, Catriona Laing served as the British High Commissioner to Nigeria from November 2018 to April 2023. Her distinguished career also includes her tenure as the British Ambassador to Zimbabwe from 2014 to 2018.
