Somaliland president’s cabinet reshuffle creates mixed reactions

Hargaysa, 13, November, 2018. Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi has reshuffled his cabinet and dignitaries. The reshuffle has resulted in some ministers losing their jobs while others have been demoted.

There have also been new nominees. There has been mixed reactions with regard to some of the ministers who have lost their jobs, as they have not been vocal critics of the president nor have they shown weakness in performing the duties they were assigned to do.

The reason behind the reshuffle is not yet clear because it did not retort to faction power sharing that was sought after by opposition parties and expected by independent political observers. Some believe it might have been because junior ministers seemed out of touch with clan constituencies that isolated the government locally and exposed it to the danger of tax rejection calls.

Some politicians believe the reshuffle might have been done to boost the unity of the people or invigorate public service delivery.
