The meeting that lasted for hours concluded the nomination of preliminary technical committee from both sides: Somaliland and Somalia. This committee will discuss something unknown prior to the setting the agenda of the conference.
Somalia’s President Abdilahi Farmajo delivered a brief speech saying his government will have open-minded and fruitful negotiations with Somalia. His speech neither defined the essence nor clearly stated reunification talks.
On his side, Somaliland president Muse Bihi Abdi read his speech in front of the guests reiterating the background and the history of Somaliland’s difficult birth.
The communique was about not to politicize aid so that it keeps coming.
So far, none of the local press has the knowledge of the problem the technical committee is going to solve not to mention Somaliland and Somalia entangle in political quagmire that requires political solutions instead of technical reports.
Puntland also rejected in advance “that any talks with Somaliland without us (Puntland) is null and void because it’s us that share border with Somaliland” said Deni Puntland President.
Puntland an autonomy of state-based tribe in the 21 century, a homeland open for Hartis kinsmen regardless of where they born. It currently fights for Harti tribal land unification— however not yet succeeded— it didn’t declare the reunification of Daarood scattered all across the Somali peninsula so far.
In contrast, Somaliland has a well-demarcated border lines prior to the ill-fated union with Somalia; it seeks to secure by means possible. Both Puntland and Somaliland fought over Tukaraq, a village within borders of Somaliland but inhabited by Hartis. Military clashes between two is frequent.
