Abdirahman Irro accuses President Bihi of “Engineering” a term extension

The Presidential candidate of Waddani party, the main opposition party of Somaliland Abdirahman Irro, accused President Muse Bihi for “Engineering” a term extension which he described as “unconstitutional” and warned it could lead to violence in the country.

Recounting the last meeting he had with the President, he said Bihi does not show any commitment to hold the presidential election on 13 November 2022 and in contrast the president aims at the license of the current political parties expiring without participating in the presidential election.

“Muse says he wants to have a term extension and we say, you do not have a right to do so.” Irro said

Abdirahman Irro urged his supporters and the public to stand for defending the constitution and to oppose what he called an “autocratic regime” to rule Somaliland. He also told the public to pressure the current administration to hold the presidential election on time and must not accept delay.

Bihi and his administration have neither accepted nor denied these accusations raised by the opposition. These statements from the political parties show that Somaliland is marching towards unprecedented political crises.
