New clashes between the Somaliland security forces and armed militia broke out on Saturday morning in LasAnod as both sides were reported to have exchanged heavy weapons. Initial reports say there are casualties on both sides.
In a statement, Somaliland Ministry of interior claimed that various groups have waged an attack on military bases which the national army eventually thwarted. the statement said. Somalia’s Puntland state was leading the “coalition forces” and will be held responsible for the casualties.
Also, Somaliland underlined that this attack occurred as the Somaliland government was working to restore peace and stability in Las’anod. However, the other side has not yet commented on this latest clash.
This clash resumed at a time when there have been ongoing peaceful efforts to end the conflict and the city was relatively calm for the last days and no heavy conflicts were reported.
200 people were killed and many more wounded as thousands fled from their homes since the conflict started last month.
