Authorities briefly arrest poet over suspected incitement remarks

Days after the government closed down two privately owned Tv networks, authorities in Hargeisa briefly last night arrested a popular Somali Comedian Shucayb Yare.

The 18-year-old who has since been released was arrested over incitement remarks he made on Social media according to sources.

Shuaib Abdirahman who is known by the stage name Shucayb Yare is well known, poet, and comedian in Hargeisa and across the Somali speaking regions.

Somaliland Police detained him on Sunday before releasing him on the wee hours Monday.

Shuaib is accused of making incitement remarks against the government.

A popular opinion which is believe d by many is that that his arrest relates to his recent poet which he criticized the current administration who is leading President Muse Bihi.

The Minister for Investment of Somaliland has described Shucayb’s briefly detention as “Misunderstanding” though the minister did not give much detail.

In the now popular poem, Shuceyb says in one of the lines, Soldiers only know how to involve themselves on land grabbing and that the do not know anything about leadership in society.

Many people believe he refers to the President of Somaliland because President Bihi has a long Military background.

Shuaib Abdirahman joined comedy when he was young at his intermediate school time.

He also featured Wacdi iyo Waano film which was recently released.

This week alone authorities in Somaliland have closed down two Privately owned TV networks which many people described as a threat to the freedom of expression in the country.
