Detained Opposition Official arraigned to court, denied bail

Hargeisa (Somaliland.com) – The Interior Secretary of UCID party, Mohamud Ali Suleiman Ramaah was arraigned to the court Saturday morning. UCID officials told that their colleague was brought to court with heavily armed guards as he was a terrorist.

Mohamud Suleiman Ramah, the interior secretary of UCID party, was brought before Marodijeh regional court today.  The court denied him bail and he was returned to C.I.D detention center after he was formally charged.

UCID party strongly condemned the decision of the court to deny Mr. Ramah a release on bail. 

Jiir Ali Madooobe, the chairman of UCID party’s Central Council said they have challenged the court’s decision. 

Today we have come to the regional court. We met the judge who is new at this position. He denied our request for bail. We challenged the decision appealed to the appellate court. We will meet the chief justice of the appellate court tomorrow and see what decides.

Jiir Ali Madobe added that the attention of Mr. Ramah is an attempt to jeopardize the negotiations to settle the electoral dispute.

He urged the political parties not fall for the trap and single-mindedly focus on the negotiations while ignoring all provocations.

The interior secretary of UCID party was arrested on Thursday at the Criminal Investigation Department in the capital Hargeisa. He is accused of defaming the speaker of Somaliland’s House of Representatives, Bashe Mohamed Farah.
