Somaliland fire brigade officers rescued on Wednesday a newborn baby dumped by a female person into a toilet in Hargeisa.

It was on Wednesday when Somaliland Fire brigade received information from the residents at Ahmed Dhagah district in Hargeisa of a child dumped into a toilet by someone believed to be the mother.

The officers immediately came to the scene to rescue the child, it’s believed that the mother of the child dumped into the toilet with unknown reasons, but Somaliland Fire Brigade safely dismantled the concrete and the baby successfully retrieved. The baby was alive and then handed over to the Hargeisa General Hospital.

Though the officials have not identified the gender of the child

The Chief of Somaliland Fire Brigade General Ahmed Mohamed Hassan (a.k.a Swahili) described the incident as “shocking” and warned the people not to allow anyone they do not know his identity to use their toilets.

“I want to congratulate Somaliland fire brigades for what they have done for their people. My message is that people should not allow anyone they do not know his/her identity to use their toilets. But, if that happens again from today, the owner of the house will take responsibility.” Gen. Swahili urged.

The Mayor of Hargeisa, Abdirahman Aideed (a.k.a Soltelco) also visited the scene and he told the public that this is intolerant action. The Mayor thanked the bravery of Somaliland Fire Brigades and for their immediate rescue of the baby. He added that the Police have some leads to the suspects, that they shall investigate more.

Somaliland Fire brigade conducts operations to save the lives for both human-beings and animals. In this week, they also participated in evacuating the victims affected by heavy rains which killed around six people and wounded nine others.
