Election campaigns have officially kicked off in Somaliland for the local council and parliamentary candidates.
The Ucid political party which is the oldest of the three national parties in Somaliland has officially launched the campaign . The campaign management team of the party decided to hold their main campaign rally in the eastern regions of the country where thousands of people marched in freedom parks.
Feisal Ali Warabe, the chairman of the Ucid party urged people to vote for the candidates of his political party and emphasized on electing effective and trustworthy candidates.
He slammed the current ruling party (Kulimiye) and the government for failing to accomplish their duties in public office and called for their replacement. Feisal Ali Warabe added that this is the right time to elect young leaders who are energetic so that they are involved Somaliland’s decision making process.
The Chairman also attacked the outgoing Mayor of Buroa Mohamed Murad who has recently distanced himself from financial mismanagement and corruption for lack of success to develop the city which is the second largest city in Somaliland.
On 31 May, Somaliland citizens will cast their votes for their favourite candidates for the local council and parliamentary elections. The campaign period will last for a period of six days.
