Ethiopian finance minister arrives in Hargeisa

 SOMALILAND.COM – A high-level delegation led by Ethiopian Finance minister has on Wednesday arrived in Somaliland capital Hargeisa.

Ahmed Shide, the Ethiopian finance minister has reached the town a day after Somaliland welcomed president Farmajo’s apology to people in Somaliland over atrocities committed by the government led by late Siyad Barre.

The delegation is expected to hold talks with Somaliland authorities over wide range issues.

Shide’s arrival in Somaliland follows reports of a planned historic visit by Farmaajo to the Somaliland Republic which Bihi has termed as ‘rumours’.

The move barely come a week after Somalian President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Somaliland leader met in Addis Ababa town for first time since Farmajo came to power in 2017.

The agenda of the closed-door meeting between the leaders which brokered by Ethiopian prime minister Abiy Ahmed has not yet been public.

There have been reports that Ethiopia’s Abiy Ahmed whose country enjoys cordial relations with Somaliland is keen on taking up the lead role in bringing the leaders of the two sides together for talks. 

Ethiopia controls 19% stake at the Berbera Port which is being upgraded under a 30-year concession by the UAE ports operator DP World.
