A fighting between the Somaliland security forces and armed militia erupted again in LasAnod on Sunday morning, according to the Somaliland defense ministry. Initial reports reveal there are casualties on both sides.
Somaliland accused the militia group for attacking its military bases and the national army prevented it. It also reiterated its allegation against Somalia’s Puntland state for leading the attack against Somaliland security forces, an accusation Puntland had denied of any involvement.
Meanwhile, the local elders also blamed Somaliland security forces for attacking the LasAnod city from two different directions as peace delegates are expected to arrive in the city tomorrow.
Somaliland expressed sadness that what they called “coalition forces” orchestrated attacks against its military while Muslims are fasting and performing their good deeds during this holy month of Ramadan as this is the first fight between the two sides since Ramadan started.
The city of LasAnod was relatively calm in the past few days and no heavy clashes were reported. But, there has been a volatile situation as no peaceful agreements were reached by the two sides.
