Hargeisa, July 30 (Somaliland.com): Somaliland police arrested 4 journalists of Eryal TV on Tuesday, 30 July 2019. The arrested journalists were reportedly investigating supposed improprieties said to be surrounding the National Youth Service Programme examination.
The reporters who were on-duty at the time they were arrested were reported to have been conducting their daily operations at Grand-Haddi Hotel. They are now detained at a police station in Hargeisa.
Mr Badri Kosar, Mr Abdirhman Fantastic, Mr Aidarus Mohamed, and Mr Kamal Abdi (who is a cameraman) are the names of four journalists arrested.
The four journalists arrested were reported to have been engaged in an interview with individuals said to be against a new employment examination for jobs already allotted to the National Youth Service.
The security forces have so far remained mute regarding details of the arrest of these 4 journalists.
Somaliland Journalists Association (SOLJA) condemned what they termed “the illegal detention” of the four journalists, and they are calling on the government of Somaliland to immediately release the arrested reporters.
