Hargeisa municipality officials confirmed the death of a four years old boy in a small water catchment close to the second largest bridge in the city known as Biriij Liic-liic. The officials did not give further details how the incident happened or if there were other children who also got affected.
The deceased child, his father is a Somaliland police officer and their residential house is in the neighborhood of where the accident happened. Meanwhile, the municipality has denied and distanced itself that water catchment was among their constructed projects and it has been existen for the last decade.
Two weeks prior, Somaliland police sent a warning to the public to refrain from crossing dry rivers and dams as the rainy season has started in some regions of the country. Parents are also warned and urged to look after their children more over now that schools are still open as more heavy rain is expected.
