The Newly elected Mayor of Hargeisa, Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge, has kick-started a special operation to clean up the environment. He called on the community to leave garbage in the main valley.
Mooge said anyone who tries to dump garbage indiscriminately in the Hargeisa valley will be prosecuted.
In the early hours of Thursday, a clean-up campaign was launched in most of Hargeisa’s main valley, which was announced by the new local council.
The clean up campaign was attended by local government officials and hundreds of residents in the capital Hargeisa. The operation involved collecting and cleaning up waste dumped in the capital city.
This week the mayor also reopened blocked roads in Hargeisa. Officials say the process cleared four main gates which were part of the road closure in the area.
