A female student by the name Huda Hussein got the attention of thousands of people in the Somali community on Sunday after she went live on her facebook page and threatened to commit sucide.
A woman who claimed to be her cousin said that the Huda is a university student, her parents are sick and she could not find anyone to turn to for help. The cousin believes these circumstances caused her to fall into depression.
After she made the post ,Huda Hussein went missing. Her family and the local police were looking for her for almost seven hours.
The relative said she last saw Huda at around lunch time and she was crying. She asked her what the problem was and Huda repeatedly said “ sometimes death is better than life” according to the relative. The cousin also narrated that HUDA usually posts on her facebook page about her psychological problems.
Somaliland police in Gabiley district confirmed to the public at night that Huda had been found and she was in their hands. According to the police, a man had contacted the police and informed them he had found the missing woman. The young man who also talked to the media said he recognised Huda because he was among the people who were keenly following the widely circulated story on social media. The police noted they will handover Huda to her parents anytime soon.
In a two weeks period, a man was also reported to have committed sucide in his Hargeisa after he could not pay the rent. The security agencies did not give further details on the matter.
