Kenya President Apoints new Hargeisa counsel general

Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Benson Mwaliko to lead Kenyan mission in Hargeisa, the capital city of Somaliland. Among the appointees are four diplomats who will represent Kenya in various countries as Consul-Generals.

This upgrading of the mission is in fulfillment of agreements entered between Somaliland President Muse Bihi and Uhuru Kenyatta in Nairobi on 15th December 2020.

The appointment by Kenyatta comes just some 109 days before he exits government as the Head of State. The now elevated Kenyan Mission in Hargeisa was officially Launched in September 2021 as a liaison office with Benson Mwaliko as its Head.


Thousands of Kenyans including teachers, tourists, construction workers and others live in the major cities of Somaliland. This consulate is believed to assist them more on their travel documentations.
