SOMALILAND.COM – The leader of Somaliland’s Khaatumo region, Ali Khalif Galaydh, warns Somaliland of the Ethio-Emirati push for regional integration.
Speaking at a book launch event on Thursday evening, Ali Galaydh warned that Ethiopia and United Arab Emirates are in sync in their push to exploit the resources of the region
Being the closest allies of Somaliland, Ali Galaydh warned that UAE and Ethiopia could compromise Somaliland’s stand if they side with the Federal Government of Somalia.
The remarks of the statesman come at a time when the Ethiopian premier is lobbying Somaliland’s government to welcome President Farmajo of Somalia in Hargeisa. Somaliland’s government-backed by strong public opinion resisted the pressure from Ethiopia. At least for this round.
Ali Khalif Galaydh urged Somaliland’s government to develop a keen understanding of its larger Ethiopia. According to him, Ethiopia’s success and failure could portend disaster to Somaliland if not understood well.
Ali Khalif Galaydh indicated that resolving the grievances of the Khaatumo region will go along way in strengthening Somaliland’s hand in the face of these regional challenges. He reiterated his call for implementing the accord between Somaliland’s government and Khatumo group in 2017.
