Somaliland incumbent party Kulmiye will hold its national conventional early June this year. The second deputy chair of the party, Ahmed Abdi Dheere, made the announcement in a press conference at his office.
The party did not disclose the venue of the convention nor the exact day of the conference. However, the party announced the organizing committee of the convention comprising of officials in the government, MPs and party leaders.
Kulmiye party chooses its leaders and candidates for president in their conventions. Numerous party leaders including cabinet ministers have announced their aspiration to become the next chairman of the party. Most notably is the former strongman in the last Kulmiye government, Mohamud Hashi. The current deputy chairman of the party, Mohamed Kahin is also expected to join the race. Candidates with lesser chances include the former planning minister, Mohamed Ibrahim Aadan, and the president Bihi’s political Advisor, Ali Waran-Adde.
However much of the outcome depends on President Bihi who is yet to disclose his intentions on retaining or giving up the mantle.
This is the fourth national convention for the party, the last one being held in October 2015. Kulmiye party split into two factions in that 2015 convention with half a dozen ministers resigning from the party to join the opposition.
