Mediation committee meet with Kulmiye to solve election disputes

Hargeisa (Somaliland.com) – Businessmen and elders to mediating between the government and opposition met Kulmiye Party officials in Hargeisa today.

A mediation committee comprising of key businessmen and elders have today met the ruling party Kulmiye in a bid to broker a deal between the government and opposition in Somaliland.

The officials from the mediation committee and the ruling party did not disclose the outcome of the meeting convened at the laters headquarters.

The volunteer mediation committee comprising of key businessmen, elders and religious leaders who have taken it upon themselves to broker a deal between the president and his ruling party Kulmiye, and Opposition parties who have disputed the recently sworn in Electoral commission, has on Tuesday met officials from the ruling party Kulmiye and have given the committee their blessings to resolve their dispute.

The second vice chairman of Kulmiye party, Ahmed Abdi Dheere who addressed the media after the meeting said the party has given the committee its recommendations.

Ahmed Abdi who did not want to dwell much into the outcome of the meeting added that the ruling party is ready to hold elections as soon as the political deadlock is over.

The mediation committee is spearheading efforts to resolve the stalemate that has caused a political crisis triggered by the dispute over the electoral commission.

Even as the volunteer council promises to resolve the stalemate between parties in the country, Opposition party WADDANI has denounced to fight what they called the “illegal and dictatorial” actions of the Somaliland Government.
