Members of Somaliland deaf society gathered on Wednesday in front of the house of representatives to express their dissatisfaction of the annual national budget approved by the house of representatives which they claimed that their rights were not included.
The members were holding pieces of A4 papers demanding the president to not approve the national budget unless the society’s rights were included.
A member of the deaf society who spoke to the media alleged the house of representatives has for three consecutive years failed to include their rights, an allegation the house is yet to respond to.
In their speeches, they said that they feel oppressed by the members of the parliament stating that they repeatedly complained to the parliament and the finance committee but were left out of the national budget of 2023.
While blocking at the main road of the Presidency that is nearby the house of representatives briefly, They also confirmed that similar protests were taking place in Burao and Borama to demand their rights.
Also, they expressed anger that the house of representatives have raised their budget but allegedly refused to allocate a budget for the deaf society. Meanwhile, Somaliland deaf society Organization showed gratitude to president Muse Bihi for extending support and doing alot for the deaf society.
