Somaliland Ministry of Agriculture has warned Somaliland citizens from forecasted heavy rains in all regions of the country. This comes when most Somaliland regions have been experiencing continuous rains in the last three months.
Somaliland Ministry of Agriculture produced a Meteorological report, warning the people from the possible torrential rains in the coming days, starting from 09-16 October 2019.
The report says that there will be heavy rains in all Somaliland regions, especially throughout the eastern regions of Togdheer, Sool and Sanaag.
The expected rains are measuring between 50millimeter-100millimeter, which the Ministry said, they can cause flooding in cities, waterways and valleys, especially the HAWD plains, according to a government forecast map.

Highest Rainfall data collected from the regional and district Meteorological stations include: Amoud (376mm) Botor (344mm), Wajale (340mm), and Hargeisa (245.5mm).
In eastern regions, On September 2019, heavy rains included, Ballidhiig(135mm) Laaso-Da-awo(74mm )
The ministry recommended citizens to take necessary precautions and stay away from near watercourses.
This year, Somaliland provinces received unprecedented rains estimated to be the highest rainfall since 1997.
The rains started in May in a semi-continuous manner, helping both the pastoralists and farmers. Although there are no official reports on the damages caused by the rains, two incidents in May and August this year killed 8 persons in Hargeisa alone.
Heavy rains usually cause loss of lives, property destruction and the closure of the important Berbera Corridor due to lack of bridges.
