MP calls on Somaliland government to follow up on regional support to Somaliland’s bid for recognition

Ahmed Du’aale Bullaale, a member of Somaliland’s house of representatives calls on the government to follow up on the opportunities presented to Somaliland by the distinguished dignitaries that attended Somaliland’s independence day celebrations.

Somaliland’s House of Representatives member, Ahmed Du’aale Bullaale has met with the Kenyan and Ugandan MPs who attended Somaliland’s independence day commemorations. He thinks that it put Somaliland in the spotlight in a very positive way and conveyed a good image of the country.

Speaking to CBA-TV, Hargeisa-based English Television, Mr. Bullaale said the Ugandan government followed MPs’ visit to Somaliland closely.

“They were sent from the speaker of their parliament. Also, their president was aware of their visit. They have even received calls from the speaker of their parliament and representative of the president while we were having talks.so they were well-prepared delegation.” he added.

About the nature of the Ugandan delegation visit, he said it was for a fact-finding mission aiming at exploring Somaliland’s private sector and the reasons the nation has gained international recognition.

The MP pointed out the Ugandan MPs open support for Somaliland’s recognition, and Kenyan’s keenness to establish relations with Somaliland, saying it is an opportunity that needs a follow up from the government.

“They told international media that interviewed them here that they supported Somaliland’s recognition and to be given a chance. That a golden opportunity for us. The Kenyan delegation which included business people, Members of parliament, and other officials was also very keen in establishing business and political relations with us. That’s a big and golden opportunity, and I suggest we follow up with it.” he said.

Finally, the MP called on the ministry of foreign affairs to lead the efforts in capitalizing on this interest from the countries of the region.

Somaliland celebrated the 28 anniversary of its independence on eighteenth May in style and grandeur. Delegates from Uganda, Kenya, Djibouti and the Somali regional state of Ethiopia were among the dignitaries that attended the celebrations in the capital, Hargeisa.
