President Bihi blames Somalia’s Puntland state of intending to create tribal border

In his annual address that touched on various issues, President Bihi of Somaliland included in his speech the current affairs of LasAnod which has been relatively calm for the last weeks, except that there was a short lived skirmish last night.

He blamed the volatile situation in LasAnod on Somalia’s Puntland state of allegedly aiming to create a tribal border between Somaliland and Somalia while citing the recent regional President’s statement declaring his army will be part of the fight if needed.

Bihi expressed optimism the conflict will end through dialogue and peaceful talks, reiterated his administration’s commitment to welcome whoever intends to make peace in LasAnod including the traditional elders who arrived from Mogadishu.

There have been several attempts to mediate between the warring sides but still no progress towards peaceful agreement has been made as hundreds of people and thousands fled from their homes since the war started.
