Somaliland President Muse Bihi became one of the first African leaders to extend a congratulatory message to Emmanuel Macron on his reelection as the President of France. In a tweet post, Bihi said Somaliland and France are historic partners of development, democracy, global security and prosperity.
Meanwhile, Somaliland foreign affairs minister Essa Kayd underlined that his country shares the same values of freedom and democracy with France. More senior government officials and politicians from Somaliland have sent similar congratulatory messages to the elect President Emmanuel Macron.
This is the second time Macron managed to be elected to office after he defeated the far right candidate Marine Le Pen. His supporters erupted with joy on Sunday as the results appeared on a giant screen at the Champ de Mars park by the Eiffel tower.
In his victory speech, Macron acknowledged that many had only voted for him just to keep Le Pen out and promised to address the sense of many French that their living standards are slipping.
