As the Somaliland national electoral commission finalises final election results of themost populous regions in the country, some prominent politicians from the three national parties have lost their seats for the local council and house of representatives.
Some of these politicians lost by a narrow margin while others appeared on the bottom of the list. Mohamoud Warsame Jama who is the former spokesperson of Somaliland Presidency was a front runner for the house of representatives in Sanaag region. He was contesting for the ruling party but he lost by 24 votes and conceded to his political rivals.
Ahmed Abyan, a former vice presidential candidate of the Ucid party in the 2017 elections has also lost his parliamentry seat. He was running for the house of representatives for his party in Sool region and was expected to contest for the speakership of the house. Ahmed has not yet commented on his election results publicly.
Mohamoud Ramaah, the current Secretary of internal affairs for UCID party contested for the house of representatives in Togdheer region. After a long effort and campaign, Ramaah did not win his parliamentary seat. After the election results of his region were announced, Ramaah strongly accepted the results and expressed gratitude to his supporters and political rivals.
In most of the finalised regions, the main opposition party Waddani is leading the seats for the house of representatives.
