On Monday, the Borama city of Somaliland witnessed a large gathering of angry protestors expressing solidarity for the fallen Somaliland coast guard officer who was recently killed by another member of Somaliland coast guards.
The protesters demanded justice for Habeeb and called on the government for the immediate implementation of the execution against the officer responsible for the crime. Somaliland police arrived at the scene to disperse the protestors as casualties were reported due to the clashes.
The protest came barely a day after the Somaliland Military court sentenced Ahmed Abdi Abdillahi, a naval officer to death in connection for the murder of his commander, Khadar Habeeb on wednesday.
The murder occurred in Lowya-Addo and authorities have not yet disclosed the motive of the killing. However, the family and clan elders of the victim appealed to the government to ensure justice is served and the perpetrator should be executed right away.
