Protest eruputed in Burao, Somaliland on Wednesday night just minutes after breaking fasting. The protestors demanded the immediate release of General Doolal who was sentenced to two years by a Somaliland Military court.
The protestors could be seen burning rubber tires on the main street of Burao. The protestors were later dispersed after police arrived at the scene to restore stability. Initial reports say, some of the protestors were also arrested though the government has not yet officially confirmed the exact number of people arrested.
The Chairman of Waddani Party Abdirahman Irro had previously spoken about the detained General in Hargeisa and urged the government to consider his health citing information given to him by the detained General’s family members.
The government of Somaliland has not yet formally commented on this case while the family and relatives of the General demanded for his immediate release citing his health conditions.
