Berbera, June 16 (Somaliland.com):- A cargo ship carrying materials costing around $5million yesterday sank off the coast of Berbera.
The ship was sailing from the United Arab Emirates to Somaliland when it encountered high waves and strong winds.
According to a businessman Sh Abdirahim Suleiman Jama, who lost their assets in the tragedy, confirmed that the cargo consisted of 50 cars and building materials such as timber bundles, cement, irons-sheets.
The vessel which was called MV Naeem was 140 miles off the Berbera Port and all efforts to tow the vessel to safety to Mukalla port of Yemen failed but fortunately, all its crews were rescued.
Daldhis Company received the heaviest loss of around $800,000 of assets mostly building materials.
