Six companies are shortlisted for the Feasibility Study of Borama-Lowyacaddo Road Construction

Hargeisa – Somaliland – Officials in the Somaliland Ministry of Transport and Road Development along with Somaliland Road Agency had held a consultative meeting with managers of six shortlisted companies competing on as consultant contractors in the construction of the planned road that connects the cities of Borama, and Lawya-Caddo in Somaliland-Djibouti border

The road which is approximately 280 KM is funded by the African Development Bank, under its Road Infrastructure Programme.

Director-General of the Somaliland Road Authority Ahmed Yusuf Mohamed, who spoke at the meeting, said more than sixty (60) companies had submitted applications for the competition, but only six companies were chosen on the final list, which will compete again to be selected only one company.

The required services from the selected firm will include Feasibility Study, preparation of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment and Resettlement Action Plan, preliminary and detailed engineering design of Lowyaddo-Borama road. The consultancy  firm will also be tasked with  the  preparation  of  Bill  of  Quantities  and  relevant  bidding  documents with maximum duration  of  the Assignment to be twelve (12) months.

The Director-General of the Somaliland Ministry of Transport and Road Development Omar Abdillahi said that the road connecting Borama to the border with Djibouti will be of a great benefit to the people of Somaliland.

The construction of the Lawyacado-Borama Road will be the backbone for the development of the western regions of Somaliland and will connect Somaliland with the neighboring countries of Djibouti and Ethiopia.
