Somaliland police forces in Awdal region reported that they arrested 42 immigrants from Ethiopia. The regional police chief Abdi Khayre Arawelo who talked to the media stated that the immigrants were held captive for two months in Borama and suffered from various tortures were charged with ransom money of 25000 Ethiopian Money.
The immigrants told the police that they came from different regions of ethiopia like jigjiga, Herar, and sought help from the smugglers, Also, the immigrants revealed that the smugglers promised them jobs before they were held captive and tortured in a house.
Faisa Camad, one of the immigrants, narrated her story to the public, claiming that her parents sold everything they had including their house. She alleged the smugglers of beating them whenever they tried to speak and ignored extending help to some of the immigrants who got sick in the house detention.
Somaliland Police reported that security agencies are still investigating similar cases and vowed to bring the smugglers in court to face their charges against them anytime soon.
