Somalia National Army (SNA) special forces claimed to have destroyed multiple Al-Shabaab hideouts in the Hiran region. The special commandos of Danab were conducting security operations which majored in three villages of Ba’aha, Gelkudhal, and Hodale.
The villages come under Matabaan district in Hiraan region. Al-Shabaab Militant group has a few days ago taken control of the district in the Hiiraan region. Residents who spoke to the media confirmed the presence of the insurgents in the area which is critically a strategic gateway town that links central and southern Somalia.
The fighters reportedly captured the district without meeting any resistance following a withdrawal of government forces from the area. Mataban district is 60km northeast of the Hiiraan capital Beledweyne.
In Mid-December last year, the group briefly seized the town Mataban after Galmudug state forces withdrew from the area. The town was recaptured by government troops less than a day later.
Al- Shabaab is waging war to take control of the Horn of Africa Nation and impose its own strict interpretation of the Islamic Sharia.
