Somalia’s ambassador to China Awale Ali Kulane has criticized Taiwan’s deal with Somaliland. He believes their relations undermine peace and stability in Africa. He stated they will protect Somalia’s sovereignty whether from Taiwan or any other entity.
In an exclusive interview with CGTN, the ambassador underlined Somalia will not accept the agreement between Somaliland and Taiwan on natural resources and Taiwan has no authority to plunder the resources under “fake” agreements.
His statement came after Somaliland foreign affairs minister Essa Kayd has recently returned from Taiwan after a five-day trip consisting of meetings with high-level officials including President Tsai Ing-Wen.
He disclosed the two sides have made successful agreements on the aspects of fishery, health, technology and mining oil and gas. At a press conference on Friday, Essa Kayd said relations were “at the highest level.” and said no one can dictate who they want to have relations with.
