Somaliland and Taiwan sign agreement on Health cooperation

Somaliland’s ministry of health and the Taiwan representative office in Somaliland today signed an agreement on a project for the efficient enhancement of health information management. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Health Liban Yusuf Osman and Ambassador of Taiwan to Somaliland Allen C Lou.

The agreement signed looks to improve the efficiency of health information management through a Health information system. This system will see the digitization of health related management such as patient medical records in order to improve efficiency while strengthening the e-health system and hospital management.


Taiwan’s system has been successfully implemented in countries such as Paraguay and according to ambassador Allen, the success of the system in Paraguay prompted for the trial in Somaliland. The ambassador expressed delight in witnessing the implementation of the digital health system, which he called a futuristic project for Somaliland.


Somaliland and Taiwan have cooperated on many fronts since their blossoming partnership began and health is one of the flagship sectors they are involved in.

According to deputy minister of health, the project would aid in capacity building and knowledge transfer.
