Somaliland and Taiwan Unveil innovation Zone in Hargeisa

Somaliland’s ministry of information and communication technology in collaboration with the Taiwan government yesterday jointly inaugurated an innovation zone in Hargeisa. Notable figures including the Minister of information and technology Abdiweli Soufi, foreign Affairs minister Dr Esse Kayd, Finance minister Sa’ad Ali Shire, the Governor of the Central Bank Ali Dahir and Taiwan Representative to Somaliland Allen Lou were present at the grand breaking ceremony.

Somaliland government officials revealed that this is the first phase and it is aimed at training a large scale of young generations in the field of technology. The first batch of 30 students will be enrolled very soon.

Abdiweli Soufi, Somaliland information and technology said Somaliland could be one of the leading countries in technology in the future and more advanced technologies will be innovated that could be supported by the regional countries and across the word.

In his remarks, Taiwan representative to Somaliland Allen Lou disclosed that Somaliland is the first country they implemented this innovation zone. He aims to mitigate the digital gap in the country and the beneficiaries will contribute much to this nation.

Somaliland minister of finance Sa’ad Ali Shire expressed gratitude to the Taiwan government for being collaborative with the country’s government institutions and believes this will be a key factor to this horn of Africa state. He advised the general public to take advantage of this opportunity.

Meanwhile, Dr. Esse Kayd, Somaliland foreign affairs minister stated that he expects from the Somaliland and Taiwan ICT corporation to boost the intragovernmental data collections and to increase government institutions practices.
