

Somaliland vice President Abdirahman Saylici has sent a congratulatory message to the people of Uganda as they celebrate their 59th anniversary of independence. In a twitter post, the Vice President said he wishes Uganda for peaceful celebrations.
As this east africa state marks independence anniversary its the second one devoid of the usual countrywide fetes because of restrictive measures instituted to curb the Covid-19 pandemic.
The landlocked country in East Africa, encompassing the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains and vast Lake Victoria was occupied by the British Empire in 1894. Fifty-eight years later, in 1962, the country got independence.
Since independence, Uganda witnessed several military coups halting much of its development. But since 1986 the country has been stable after current president Yoweri Museveni assumed office through a coup.
