The counting of ballots is still underway in Somaliland after citizens casted their votes for the local council and house of representatives. The process is going on smoothly and the electoral commission says it’s too early to announce the final results.
The electoral commission chairman who was in live broadcast coverage said the Preliminary results of the election could be published within 24 hours although he said the final results will be formally announced within 10 days. He however declined to specify the exact day it will be announced.
The electoral commission highlighted that the counting ballots is still going on as they wait for others to arrive at the headquarters. Officials said counting of the district votes will begin within the next hours.
On Monday, Somalilanders went to polling stations to vote for their favorite candidates for the local council and house of representatives Those elected in this election will have a 5 year mandate to serve the public.
