Somaliland’s election team in Somalia has released the timetable for the senate elections following the unveiling of the candidates on Tuesday. According to the schedule, Registration and verification of candidates for the Upper House will begin on Thursday 23rd and is expected to end on Saturday 25th of this month.
Voting will start on September 28 and will end on September 30, 2021. Howevee the timeline has not clarified the exact number of seats to be elected per day. The new schedule also stated that the training of delegates who will elect the senators of the Upper House will take place on September 26 while the candidates will deliver their keynote speeches before the delegates the following day.
On Tuesday the outgoing Senate Speaker Abdi Hashi and Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Guled presented the list of over 25 candidates who showed interests in Somaliland’s senatorial seats, to prime minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.
