With only a few days left until the house of representative and local council elections, Somaliland national electoral commission has formally announced the total number of legal voters for the upcoming elections in the country.
Abdirashid Mohamed Ali (Riyo Raac), the chairman of the electoral commission clarified that those who are in the list will be the only eligible voters and will cast their votes for their favourite candidate.
The electoral commission said more than 1 million voters had picked their voter cards. Hargeisa which is the administrative city of maroodijeeh region will have the largest number of voters with more than 400,000 registered voters.
Sool region, one of the eastern regions of Somaliland, has also marked a new history by gaining a higher number of eligible voters as compared to the past years.
This week, the President of Somaliland met in his office with the two Chairmen of Waddani and Ucid party to discuss the upcoming house of representative and local council elections. The National electoral commission also attended the meeting together with other senior government officials.
In his remarks, the President hinted about their meeting and highlighted that the three national political parties agreed on maximizing the electoral campaigns to six day where each party will get two days to perform their campaigns.
He also said his administration had finalised and prepared all the requirements including the budget and allocation of the polling station. This means the nation is ready to go for voting on 31 May.
