Somaliland.com – Somaliland government along with international partners today launched a program to reform and strengthen the rule of law in the country. The project will revamp the nation’s rule of rule strengthening law enforcement and judiciary.
The initiative named The Joint Rule of Law program was today signed by the minister of interior Mohamed Kahin Ahmed and the European Union Ambassador to Somalia, Nicholas Martinez Berlanga.
The launching ceremony was attended by all relevant ministers of Justice, Constitution, National Planning, and Interior along with the Attorney General.
Also present was the European Union Ambassador, Nicolas Berlanga Martinez, and the Swedish Envoy to Somalia, Staffan Tillander.
The Swedish ambassador Staffan Tillander underscored the importance of this program to Somaliland especially this year when the country will hold a parliamentary election. He further indicated that the Swedish government could support Somaliland on maritime law enforcement.
Nicolas Berlanga Martinez the EU ambassador to Somalia on his part stressed that this project is not isolated engagement with Somaliland. He expressed the EU’s commitment to a long term relation with Somaliland.
Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, the minister of the interior, thanked Somaliland’s partners for this project outlining how it will benefit the country.
