The Somaliland government officials including the Interior Minister, Mohamed Kahin and the Minister of Information, Suleiman Yusuf Koore who have been in Sool region since the protests erupted in LasAnod a few weeks ago have made a communique towards the matter on Sunday.
The Minister of Information Suleiman Yusuf Ali Koore, pronouncing the statement said the government welcomes the call made by local elders of LasAnod to end the crises in a peaceful manner. He expressed the government’s commitment to resolve problems through negotiations and peaceful talks.
The government office-holders also sent a message to the residents to take a lion’s share in strengthening the security and stability of the city which has experienced numerous planned assassinations against government officials and opposition figures.
The minister recounted that the recent protests caused more obstacles to the city and directed the immediate reopening of all businesses and learning institutions that were closed due to the protests.
Minister Koore narrated that the government officials had meetings with traditional elders and intellectuals of LasAnod in the past few days, and noted that the government took responsibility for the casualties during protests.
However, the government concludes its press statement by sending stern warning against external factors including regional countries to desist from aggravating LasAnod’s tension.
