Somaliland Government Nationalizes Two Firms, for Car Plates & Car Ownership Books

Hargeisa (Somaliland.com) – Somaliland President H.E Muse Bihi Abdi in a presidential circular issued of 18th December confirmed the re-nationalization of the two agencies issuing Car Plates and Car ownership books which had been run by two private firms.

In the presidential decree, it is stated that the President realized the safeguarding of state property is the responsibility of the Government and returning public property is a priority, as there is no Public Partnership Act in place.

The Presidential Decree also said that Somaliland Government has nullified agreements with Hodan Enterprises and GTS for the privatization of production of Car Plates and Car ownership books.

From now on Somaliland Ministry of Roads and Transport will take over both of these companies and all employees will continue working as usual, as the statement reads.

The president also ordered ministries of Trade, Finance and the Office of Auditor General to evaluate the current value of these two companies to be compensated to their owners.

President Muse Bihi Abdi said he consulted with the National Economic and Development Committee and Legal Advisory on agreements between the Government and these two firms.
