The President of Somaliland Muse Bihi Abdi on his return to Hargeisa from Borama where he has been for the last few days ,has announced that the government’s plans to establish a free zone in Gabiley which is 58 Km west of Hargeisa.
He revealed that the construction of the Berbera corridor will soon commence in Gabiley and there is need to prepare for land for the free zone in Gabiley. Addressing the local residents, the President said the government may need land which can be received or stored a million tons.
The President expressed optimism that this plan will contribute to the development of the country within the coming years, emphasizing that many youth will be employed. The Berbera Corridor road upgrade project, funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development will link to the existing modern highway on the Ethiopian side and position Berbera as a direct, fast, and efficient trade route for Ethiopian transit cargo.
Muse Bihi has been in the western parts of the country for the past few days to attend the graduation ceremony of Amoud University in Borama.
