The Somaliland ministry of Finance Development has said that the cost of the coming election scheduled for May 31, 2021 will be covered by the citizen’s tax.
The ministry said this on its official twitter page that out of a total of $ 20.8M only 24% will be paid by the international community which is equivalent to $ 5M only, while the other 76% will be covered by the citizen’s tax.
The tweet was greeted with alot of commendations by the political class in the country
Ali Aziz, a grassroots politician said on his page that “We (the people of Somaliland) thank EU and Taiwan for $5m contribution of this election.
This, according to him means a lot to Somalilanders. He said he also appreciates the government of Somaliland for paying the rest of the money adding that most African countries pay less than 5% of their elections.
Already over One million two hundred thousand Plus voters have successfully registered to vote in the Republic of Somaliland, according to the Ministry of Employment, Social Affairs, and Family.
The registered voters will decide who will represent them in the Local Council & Parliament through One man, one vote.
