Somaliland government has issued a directive that the lions owned by former Somaliland minister Ali Mohamed Waran Adde should be relocated to Damis zoo which is administered by the government. This move is ment to ensure that future risks caused by the endangered wild animals are avoided.
In a statement, Shukri Bandare, Somaliland’s Minister of Environment and Rural development said the government has made this decision for public safety which is of high priority for the government.
The former Minister has not yet responded on this directive. The announcement comes following an incident where one of the lions escaped from a cage in Hargeisa on Friday night and seriously injured a woman who is now in hospital for treatment.
Damis zoo is administered by Somaliland government and is top priority for the conservation of wildlife which is on the brink of extinction from over poaching and illegal smuggling trade of its wild animals. Meanwhile, the government has not disclosed the exact time they will start the process of translocating.
