Somaliland house of representatives has unanimously approved the long awaited and last three remaining electoral commissioners; a vote that has completed the 7 Somaliland national electoral commissioners and step forward to the upcoming elections.
In June of this year, the same three members lost the vote of confidence for allegedly beingly political allies with the incumbent president Muse Bihi. a decision the president described as an attempt to delay the electoral process by the opposition MPs.
President Bihi directly appointed three members of the electoral commision and two of them have lost the vote of confidence and asked the president to replace them with new members. However, the President did not change his mind and reappointed the two members. The third member who lost the vote of confidence was appointed by the house of elders.
In the past few months, opposition parties mounted pressure on Bihi’s administration to expedite the presidential election process which is expected to take place on 13 November of this year. Though, on which ballot, the presidential and political association election will precede the other still remains the center of conflict between the government and the opposition.
